Kasturba Medical College bags NABH Nursing Excellence Certification

Mangaluru, Feb 6: The Nursing Excellence Certification from NABH for nursing services for this year has gone to the Kasturba Medical College Hospital Attavar, which completes its Silver jubilee in the field of healthcare this year. The certification is granted to facilities that maintain an international standard in areas like nursing care, nursing resource management, education, communication and guidance, management of medication, empowerment, and governance of nursing quality indicators and infection control practices.

The awarded certificate was handed over by Dr H Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, (MAHE) to Dr Anand Venugopal, medical superintendent of KMC Hospitals, Mangaluru in the presence Dr Poornima Baliga, pro vice-chancellor (Health Sciences), Dr Narayana Sabhahit, registrar of MAHE and Mr Rajen Padukone, the Group President of the Manipal Education & Medical Group (MEMG).

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Dr Anand Venugopal spoke of the camaraderie between KMC Hospitals and Manipal Group in pioneering top quality medical care, in terms of equipment professional medical practitioners and skillfully trained personnel matching world standards. He said that it was a remarkable achievement on the part of the hospital to have been honoured for nursing excellence by NABH and a moment of celebration as it coincided with its silver jubilee year i.e. 25 successful years of providing clinical services in Mangaluru.

Nursing services he stated were an integral part of the clinical services of any healthcare organization. The aim of nursing services is to provide comprehensive nursing care in terms of health promotion, prevention of diseases and therapeutic nursing care to the patients as well as to the community, he further added.

According to Dr. Venugopal, a nurses knowledge, clinical judgment, attitude, communication, skills, and other soft skills made all the difference in the ultimate delivery of health care.
