    KAP Viswanatham Medical College: 3rd-year PG Medico found hanging in hostel room
    Tiruchi: In an unfortunate incident, a PG medical student in her early thirties allegedly committed suicide, here by hanging herself inside her hostel room. The deceased was associated with KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College and the attached Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital.

    Hailing from Ambujavallipettai in Cuddalore district, the third-year PG medical student had just gotten married a month prior to her death. She was married to one doctor attached to a Government Hospital who is pursuing MD in medicine.

    The incident came to light on August 23, 2019, when the PG medical student did not report to duty late that night at the attached Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital. Moreover, her hostel room at Periya Milaguparai remained shut for a long time. Developing suspicion, the co-occupants of the hostel and the hospital staffs reportedly broke open the door. To their horror, they found the PG medical student hanging.

    Immediately, the Cantonment police were informed about the alleged suicide. The police reached the spot and the dead body was sent for post-mortem to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital.

    On receiving the information, the deceased's kin staged a protest at the hospital and also near the police station alleging foul play in the PG medical student's death. As per a report by

    , a complaint has been registered in the case.

    Taking note of the unfortunate incidents, the KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College, Trichy had earlier taken a grave decision of initiating student counselling. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the medical college had initiated the Counselling, in order to avoid suicidal deaths of students in the future.
