Juniors Doctors allegedly assault Senior Doctor at Malda Medical College

Malda: An abominable incident of junior doctors allegedly manhandling a senior doctor on the premises of Malda Medical College & Hospital (MMCH), has surfaced in an FIR filed by the senior against three junior doctors and house staff .

The injured doctor Akhtaruzzaman (40), has alleged that a prescription given by him to a patient at the male medical ward of MMCH had been changed by three junior doctors later who had according to the relatives of the patient ' passed some humiliating comments' about his treatment, as well. Hurt by their behavior when he questioned them about the same, the three suddenly became hostile in the middle of the conversation and suddenly started thrashing him. The senior accused a house staff to have joined them, as well. " Few people came to my rescue then. I never expected such assault from the junior doctors," said a visibly disturbed Dr. Akhtaruzzaman.

The aggrieved junior doctors after manhandling their senior counterpart also gheraoed the Principal, Dr. Pratip Kundu, alleging that the senior doctor had vindictively accused them. A four-member committee has been constituted by MMCH authorities and is as per directives supposed to submit a report in 48 hours. Despite the gherao, the College Principal, Dr. Kundu and Medical Superintendent cum Vice principal, Dr. Amit Dawn made it clear to the junior doctors that the four-member committee comprising heads of medicine and surgery departments, deputy superintendent and hostel superintendent would hold a probe into the matter.

"Assaulting a senior doctor is highly condemnable. We have asked the committee to furnish report within 48 hours. Action would be taken on the basis of the report," Dr Dawn, MSVP of medical college said reports The Echo of India..
