Jammu and Kashmir: MCI starts final inspection on SKIMS Medical College Bemina

J&K: SKIMS Medical College Bemina is now in its final stage of inspection by the MCI team. If the college receives an MCI nod it will offer 100 MBBS seats at its premise.

A three- member team has recently made a surprise inspection visit to the college, and is reported to have shared their anguish over the notes deficiencies on the first day of their visit. It says that it is bad as compared to their inspection last year.

The college is under consideration of increasing the seats from the existing 50 to 100. However, the glaring deficiencies in the infrastructure, and different academic facilities is said to put them (college administration) in a tight spot.

There is also an absence of a dean and a principal in the college, as implied by an official.

As reported by a local daily, “There is uncertainty whether MCI will still recommend Union Health Ministry to grant permission to admit 100 students this year also,” said a senior faculty member.

He said the SKIMS Medical College doesn’t lack teaching faculty “but the problem is the infrastructure and academic activities”.

Last year the state government had submitted the compliance report after last MCI inspection and had promised to rectify the deficiencies by March 31. “However, due to the callous approach of SKIMS Soura administration the same could not be done.”
