Jamshedpur: Young nurse of Tata Main Hospital found hanging

Jamshedpur: A young nurse of Tata Main Hospital (TMH) who is reported to be suffering from TB, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself to a ceiling fan in her hostel room at the hospital.

Rashmi Kumari (24) is the nurse, and her body has been sent by the police to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post mortem.

She is reported to be staying alone in her room at the nurse’s hostel, and has used a dupatta to hang herself.

Initial suspicion point towards a suicide as confirmed by the police also. However, no suicide note has been left by the deceased.

While police are investigating the case, the sub-inspector of Bistupur police station has implied that the deceased’s brother in law has confirmed that she was suffering from TB. We suspect that she must have committed suicide due to depression, and are looking into the matter, as further implied by the sub-inspector.

General Manager, Tata Main Hospital, G Ramdas, has implied in his statement that that her disease cannot be the reason for suicide. Rather she must have had some other strong personal reason to take such an extreme step.

Avenuemail reported that in a statement issued on Monday, Tata Steel said, “It is with extreme grief and sorrow that we wish to inform that this morning at around 7.30 am, the body of Ms. Rashmi Kumari, (age 24), a student of 1st year, BSc, at the Basic Nursing Course at TMH, was found hanging in her room at the Nursing Hostel at TMH.

According to the statement, the police were informed of this incident immediately and they took her body into custody on arrival at site and sent it for autopsy. The cause of death will be known after the post mortem. The police are investigating into the matter.
