JIPMER MBBS Admissions: Female candidate gets notice on allegations of bogus nativity certificate
Puducherry: Daughter of a professor in Puducherry Engineering College, who took admission for MBBS course in the premier Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer), for the academic year 2019-20 under the State Quota was last week furnished with a show-cause notice for securing a seat by allegedly providing fake nativity certificate.

As per a recent media report in TOI, Jipmer has issued a notice to the MBBS student and her father seeking justification as to why the Jipmer should not revoke her medical admission obtained allegedly by submitting a bogus nativity certificate.

This came after the Revenue Department authorities verified the documents submitted by the MBBS student and found that she had furnished fake information to obtain Puducherry nativity certificate and started proceedings to cancel her certificate.

The concern of the fake nativity certificate submitted by the medical student for admission in Jipmer was flagged by one Y Balasubramanian, President of the Puducherry Students and Parents Welfare Association (PSPWA). The association had come across the list of candidates who were shortlisted for provisional admission and the list of natives of Puducherry who appeared for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examination. When both the lists were compared, it was revealed that 29 out of 62 candidates who were shortlisted under the state quota did not appear in NEET examination as the native of the territory.

It was observed that MBBS students who wrote their NEET in Andhra, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana and Northern states had found a place in the quota list in Puducherry. It was suspected that the students from other stated placed in under Puducherry residents’ quota list had gathered dual nativity.

Balasubramanian pointed out that obtaining dual nativity certificate by the same student is a crime and demanded to conduct an inquiry and take suitable action suitable action against all those indulged in forgery. He further wrote to the Union Home Ministry with all evidence seeking a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in admissions to Jipmer.

Earlier, the revenue department had also issued show-cause notices to the candidate and her father. The department further recommended disciplinary action against the officials who issued her the certificate based on false information.

As per a media report in TOI, Balasubramanian grieved that the undue delay by the revenue department to act against the duo had resulted in denial of an MBBS seat to a genuine candidate from Puducherry to join the course.
