Inordinate delay in construction of Sri Jagannath Medical College concerns Odisha Health Minister

While construction work of the college building, students hostel, staff quarter, and administrative block have been completed at a cost of Rs 250 crore in an area of 25 acres of land in Samagara village provided by the Sri Jagannath temple administration, the hospital of the college is yet to be constructed.

Puri: Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das expressed his concern over the inordinate delay in construction of the Sri Jagannath medical college and hospital at Puri. Mr Das directed the departments concerned to complete the hospital in two years.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had released additional Rs 25 crore for construction of the Hospital in medical college campus. After reviewing the progress of work, the Minister directed the Energy department to install adequate capacity transformer for uninterrupted supply of power to the medical college at the earliest.

The L&T company which has been engaged in construction of college asked to complete the hospital within two year time and widen the approach road from Puri-Konark national highway to college by 200 feet before the current academic session.

Mr Das said the college would begin its academic session from 2020-21 and initially one hundred students would be admitted into college. While construction work of the college building, students hostel, staff quarter, and administrative block have been completed at a cost of Rs 250 crore in an area of 25 acres of land in Samagara village provided by the Sri Jagannath temple administration, the hospital of the college is yet to be constructed. The district administration agreed to provide another eight acres of land adjacent to college for construction of hospital in medical college campus.
