HP: Begin admission process or face action, Govt order to Pvt medical colleges

Shimla: Toughening its stance, Himachal Pardesh government directed a Solan-based medical college, which has denied admissions to 150 MBBS aspirants, to immediately begin the process of admitting students under 50 per cent government quota.

The government also asked the college to comply with its directions to admit students under the government quota seats or face action.

“The college management has been clearly told that non-compliance of government directions would attract strict action. Besides taking up the matter with Medical Council of India (MCI), action would also be taken under the laws enacted by the state government,” Secretary (Health), Onkar Chand Sharma said.

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh also said the government was aware of the problem being faced by the candidates and their parents who had been denied admission by the college.

“The government will intervene and take appropriate action in the interest of the students,” he said, adding that the college would have to seek affiliation from Himachal Pradesh University as a provision has been made in this regard by amending the HP Regulation of admissions and fixation of fee for Private Medical colleges in the state.

The Act under which the University was set up and the Regulation of Admissions and Fixation of Fee Act.

Sharma said the college cannot deny admission to students under government and management quota selected under central counselling on the basis of NEET merit.

The new session of MBBS has started from September 13 in all colleges and the management cannot deny the admissions after the counselling has been done.

Many students who had preferred to pursue MBBS course in the state have been left in the lurch as admissions have closed and they have no place to go, he opined.

  1. It has to be Maharshi Markandeshwar Medical College, Solan. Post-counselling, HP Government provided list of management/government/NRI quota seats to the College which did not admit them as HP government had overlooked its demand for increase in government quota fees which is ₹5 Lakhs, at present. HP Government should resolve the matter to enable admission by 30 September beyond which no admissions can be made.
