Health Ministry notification on vacant seats in PG Counselling

New Delhi: In view of the recent judgement passed by the Apex Court in the matter of  DAR-US -Slam educational trust v/s Medical Council of India (MCI), the Union health ministry recently asked the medical colleges to complete their mop-up round of counselling post which the vacant positions and merit list shall be prepared. Quoting the SC judgement. the notice said

“In order to ascertain the number of seats that still remain vacant after the counselling the state government or the authority designated by the state government shall conduct manual counselling for allotment of students. After the completion of counselling, the state government shall determine the number of seats that are still vacant and thereafter shall forward a list of students in order to merit, equaling ten times the number of vacant seats to the medical college so that in case of any stray vacancy arising in any college the said seat may be filled up from the said list.”

In view of the above, all the state/UT government are requested to conduct mop-up round of counselling first. After the completion of mop-up counselling, the number of seats that are still vacant may be determined and list of students in order of merit, equaling ten times, the number of vacant seats shall then be forwarded to the medical colleges concerned. In any case, last date of admission i.e. 31-05-2017 will remain unchanged.

    Why does Health Ministry not issue rigorous & fair instructions ab initio itself thus obviating the need for Court\’s intervention.
