Haryana: Eight Civil Hospitals aim to start DNB Courses

Written by Shagufta Perween Perween Published On 2019-06-01T16:43:05+05:30  |  Updated On 22 Dec 2022 3:23 PM IST
Rohtak: To meet the acute dearth of specialists in the area, eight civil hospitals in Haryana have now applied to the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to start Diplomate of National Board (DNB) course in various specialties at their hospitals .

This comes in response to the accreditation process for this year, whereby NBE had invited for Online Accreditation Application Registration from various government and private hospitals.

Taking advantage of the same, the eight civil hospitals that is those based in Panchkula, Faridabad, Gurugram, Ambala, Sonepat, Kaithal, Hisar, and Bahadurgarh had applied to seek nod for the DNB course, reports the Tribune.

The move intended to provide an extended platform to MBBS students who aspire to go for the broad specialty course.

DNB, a 3-year course is a substitute of MD/MS course which is offered by civil/ private hospitals to provide specialization to doctors after their MBBS degree. The DNB degree is awarded by the NBE which is an autonomous body under the Union Ministry of Health.

The DNB stand as an alternative to MD/MS courses run at medical colleges and was primarily introduced at large hospitals to meet scarcity of specialists which has become a growing matter of concern in the medical fraternity.

Dr Vinod K Paul, Chairman, Board of Governors, in supersession of the Medical Council of India and Member, NITI Aayog confirmed to the Tribune, "The underlying idea is to utilise the full potential of government-run and private hospitals to provide specialised medical education, apart from providing healthcare facilities," he stated.

Government planned to double the number of seats of postgraduate medical courses in the country in the next five years.
