Gujarat: Report on Quota policy for medical admissions sought by NCSC

Ahmadabad: A status report on reservations implementation in medical and dental colleges, has been asked for by the National Commission for Scheduled Caste from the Gujarat government within 10 days. The demand has come in the face of a complaint filed by the Teacher’s Association on shortcomings observed in the allotment of seats to SC, ST, and OBC category of aspirants.

According to the Gujarat State Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe College and University Professors' Association , the Admission Committee for Professional Medical Educational Courses, calculates the number of seats for reserved candidates, after 25% reduction from the management quota seats.

Raju Parmar, the Commission's Chairman said, " According to an estimate, around 3,500 seats have been wrongly filled by the admission committee." The association demanded representation of members of the SC, ST, and OBC communities in taking decisions regarding allotments.

The various categories of medical colleges include government and civic body colleges, including city based colleges which come under the self financing colleges like- NHL Medical College, LG Medical College, and Sola Medical College.

The Association also questioned imposition of high fees, in cases where government provided the infra structure.
