Government Dental College, Afzulganj principal appointment stayed

Hyderabad: All Appointments to the Principal’s post-Government Dental College, Afzulganj were stayed by Justice MS Ramachandra Rao of the High Court at Hyderabad on Friday.

The interim order has been issued based on a writ plea filed by Dr Sarjeev Singh Yadav, MDS, the senior most Professor of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, Govt Dental College & Hospital (Osmania), Afzalgunj Hyderabad.The petitioner questioned the action of the government for trying to fill up the post of Principal, Government Dental College, Afzalgung without preparing the seniority list, as contemplated under the law.

The petitioner's Counsel, Dr K Lakshmi Narasimha informed the court that the entire teaching posts, promotions, qualifications etc are all governed by special rules called the AP Medical Education Dental Service Rules.

According to these Rules, the Principal’s post is the highest post and can only be filled up with a seniority list of all professors at the Dental College being prepared by the government. The list is to be prepared based on their initial appointment in teaching ie Assistant Professor.

The government, however, committed the folly of not preparing this seniority list till now. Contrary to rules they have been accepting individual applications from professors seeking a promotion for themselves.Such an action the Counsel said to the prima facie satisfaction of the court is totally illegal and contrary to law, reports Telangana Today.
