Goa CM lays foundation stone of super specialty block at GMC
Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar laid the foundation stone ceremony for the Super Speciality Block which will come up at Goa Medical College (GMC) at Bambolim near the city under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
Speaking on the occasion, he said, "Goa can become a model state in sectors such as health and education." "GMC will become medical hub of the topmost quality. At the moment, GMC competes with private hospitals on many counts. he said and emphasised on the need to maintain hospitals. He asked the people to utilise the healthcare facility with care and asked the people of the state to partner with the government in this regard. The Chief Minister also asked people to reap the benefits of Central Government Schemes and highlighted the contribution of the Central Government in the progress of the State of Goa.
Minister for Health Vishwajit Rane termed the Super Speciality Block as a proud moment for all Goans. "This will change the narrative in the State of Goa in terms of health care," Mr Rane said. The Super specialities include Endocrinology, Nephrology, Urology, Neurology, Medical Gastroenterology, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, CTVS, Cardiology and Surgical Gastroenterology.
The total project is estimated to cost Rs 350 crore. The state-of-the-art facility will bring specialised health care services to Goans. It will segregate Public places (Hospital Zone) from Semi-Public Zone (Institutional Zone). This in turn will help decongest and reduce the patient load to create breathing space within the campus.
Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, Narendra Sawaikar, said health was very important and it was this sector which Prime Minister Narendra Modi was focusing on. There would be a healthy society if all work together, he said.
Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Vinay Tendulkar, spoke of the governments' developmental works being carried out from Pernem to Canacona in the state.
Present on the occasion were MLA of St Andre Constituency Francisco Silveira, MLA of St Cruz Constituency Antonio Fernandes, Dean of GMC Dr Pradeep Naik, Medical Superintendent Dr Shivanand Bandekar and other government officials among others.
