JIPMER Issues Clarification On Conduction Of NEET 2020

Puducherry: After receiving several queries on JIPMER MBBS entrance exam from UG aspirants this academic year, the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has issued a clarification in this regard.

In the recently issued notice, the institute has clearly stated that Conduct of MBBS-2020 Courses Entrance Examination will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) via National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test; NEET 2020, not by JIPMER Puducherry.

This year, the admission to MBBS course in AIIMS, New Delhi, JIPMER and all AIIMS like institutions will also be made through NEET.

In reference to communication received from Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and several queries received in regard to MBBS-2020 Entrance Examination for year 2020, it is hereby informed that to the provisions the Section (14) of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, provides for holding of a common and uniform National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to the undergraduate medical courses in all medical institutions including those governed under any other law.
Therefore, the admission to MBBS course in JIPMER Puducherry and JIPEMR Karaikal will be made through NEET(UG) and the entrance exam will be conducted by National Testing Agency, NOT by JIPMER, Puducherry for the year 2020 session onwards.
Please visit website(s) www.nta.ac.in, ntaneet.nic.in for more information in this regard.

Medical Dialogues had reported that these major changes in the medical education system are the features of the newly cleared National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill, 2019 which is going to replace the Medical Council of India (MCI).

The National Medical Commission Act, 2019 provides for common national entrance test – NEET – along with common counselling for MBBS, and a common final year MBBS exam which will be applicable to all institutes including those of national importance like AIIMS.

AIIMS and JIPMER, which have national importance status; function under the Union Health Ministry conduct their own admission tests at present.
