Dr YK Gupta, New President of AIIMS Bhopal pays first visit to institute
Bhopal: Soon after being handed over the responsibility of the new AIIMS in the city incoming President of All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal, Professor Dr YK Gupta recently paid his maiden visit to the institute.
Dr Gupta has a vast experience of over 35 years which he spent in AIIMS, New Delhi. Before taking the charge of the President at AIIMS Bhopal, Dr Gupta held the position of Head of Department (HoD) of Pharmacology and Pharmacovigilance at the Delhi headquarters.
During his visit, he was warmly welcomed by the Director, AIIMS Bhopal Dr Sarman Singh, who apprised Dr Gupta of the ongoing and upcoming projects of the institute.

Later, the President inspected the hospital premises and interacted with patients at the same time. The President took the round of the Hospital premises where he was accompanied by Dr Singh. He showed and apprised the incoming president about various patient care facilities at the institute including Cath Laboratory, Radiology, wards, Out-Patient Department (OPD), In-Patient Department (IPD).
During his visit , Dr Gupta also inaugurated Surgical Oncology Ward (20 beds), Neurosurgery Ward (12 beds), Burns and Plastic Surgery Ward (20 beds), Eye Bank and Operation Theater Facility for patient care. With this, the AIIMS Hospital is now equipped with the total strength of 574 beds, reports Pioneer.
He also took the round of the campus and inspected the Patient Shelter Room, Hostels; Central Library equipped with state-of-art facilities and also visit Institute's Auditorium.
Updating the new president of the institute, Dr Singh highlighted their recent achievements in the field of patient care, research, academics and also informed about the fresh recruitment and administrative activities. He said that he aims to achieve the sanctioned strength of 960 beds by mid of next year. He focused on the recruitment of faculty members by March 2019. He also shared the future plans and emphasized over the prevailing issues at the AIIMS Bhopal branch.
Hitavada reports that the President assured the Director that he will support for the betterment and progress of the Institute. He said that enhancing the quality of medical education and patient care will be his top priorities.
"If we select a faculty today, he/she needs to be an asset for tomorrow. We will continue to recruit the best people and create an atmosphere for research and academics, Dr Gupta told TOI. "Excellence cannot come from buildings. Our human resource is the key to success," he said.
On another key issue of outsourced employees at AIIMS Bhopal, Dr Gupta said, there is a humanitarian (angle to the issue) and a legal paradigm.
Earlier, the Union Health Minister headed the all-important decision making, governing body and Institute body of AIIMS Bhopal, now the responsibility has been given to Dr Gupta.
