Dr R P Swaminathan appointed Acting Director of JIPMER

Puducherry: Dr R P Swaminathan, Dean (Academic) and Senior Professor & former Head of the Department of Medicine has been appointed as Acting Director of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER).

Dr Swaminathan assumed charge of Director on 30th November, a statement confirmed.

He did his graduation and Post-graduation from Tanjore Medical College. He joined JIPMER as Senior Resident in 1983. Dr R.P. Swaminathan is an eminent Teacher, Administrator, faculty, doctor and researcher. He was responsible for the establishment of the Department of Nephrology at JIPMER and was associated with the commencement of the Renal Transplant Programme at JIPMER. He has been in the field of Hospital Management, Medical Education & Medical Research for more than three decades.

During his tenure as Dean (Academic), he has initiated various steps for creating under-graduate, post-graduate and super speciality courses. He has played a vital role in revising the MBBS and Postgraduate curriculum as per the recent advances in the medical field. Dr Swaminathan was instrumental in starting campus digitalisation in JIPMER, including digitisation of all entrance examinations and other academic-related activities.

Dr R P Swaminathan has a sound knowledge in Administration and during his tenure as Faculty (Administration), he has played a key role in conducting the various recruitment process in a smooth manner. During his association as Faculty (Admin), JIPMER for the first time in its history received the award of excellence CNBC TV 18-ICICI Lombard-India Health Care Awards as Best Hospital with Medical School Non-Metro 2014-15.

Dr R.P. Swaminathan brings a unique combination of an outstanding Teacher, Administrator and Researcher and has contributed for the development of JIPMER for more than 30 years.
