GMC Dharmapuri gets MCI nod for Starting MS General Surgery course with 8 seats
Chennai: Government Dharmapuri Medical College, Dharmapuri (GMC Dharmapuri), Tamil Nadu, is all set to start MS (General Surgery) course as the Medical Council of India, Post Graduate committee has given its nod to the Medical College to start the course. Moreover, the medical college has got the nod to start the PG course with total 8 seats
The Postgraduate Medical Education Committee has decided to propose the Central Government to issue a letter to start the course from the academic session 2019-2020. The number of seats for the course is restricted to 8 students per year.
The committee's decision was based on the report of MCI inspection where MCI assessors inspected the college and found the infrastructure and manpower appropriate to permit the college to start the course for MS (General Surgery).
The committee further directed the Teaching Institution to apply for recognition of the qualification at the time of first available examination as per the provision of Section 11(2) of the IMC Act, 1956.

The Postgraduate Medical Education Committee considered the Council Assessor’s Report (12th July 2018) and decided to recommend to the Central Govt. to issue Letter of Permission for Starting of MS(General Surgery) course at Government Dharmapuri Medical College, Dharmapuri, Tamilnadu under The Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai u/s 10A of the I.M.C. Act, 1956 prospectively i.e. from the academic session 2019-20 restricting the number of admissions to 8(Eight) students per year, till the first batch admitted appears in the final examination of the said course.”
