Dean, ESIC Medical College lodges police complaint on Ragging
Hyderabad: A recent incident of ragging by senior medical students of their junior counterparts at the state-run Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) College, Sanathnagar, has been reported by the Dean.
The Dean, Dr Srinivas lodged a complaint with the SR Nagar police requesting action against the seniors, who when asked to tender an apology to their juniors for their bad behavior, refused to heed to the order.
They had for the past few weeks been asking their juniors to run their personal errands for them; and on getting sick of these odd jobs, the juniors decided to complain against them to the management, revealed police sources.
The management on receiving a complaint by the juniors intervened to inquire about the incident. The inquiry led to the identification of the student oppressors. It was this internal inquiry and the nonchalant attitude of the seniors, regarding tendering of an apology, that compelled the dean to report the matter to the police.
On being asked the SR Nagar Inspector, Waheeduddin said they did receive a complaint in connection with the ragging incidents at the medical college, however, they had yet to register a case.
"As the college is closed for Diwali holidays, we could not question the senior students. Once we question them and record the statements of the victims, we will register cases, '' police told TNIE.
