Kerala: Complaints related to self-financing medical admission pile up before James Committee

Thiruvanthapuram: Complaints to the James Committee about private self financing colleges asking for bribes for admission,  preference being given to those giving lacs for admission and rejection of eligible student applications, seem to be piling up.

The Committee has served notices to Ernakulam Sree Narayana, Kannur, Karuna and Azeezia Medical Colleges, for rejecting applications of various candidates. The James committee has directed them to recall the candidates and reconsider their admission candidature.

Candidates who were rejected on Saturday, are to be reconsidered before the second round of counselling and given admission. The MCI has given September 30, as the deadline to complete admission formalities.

There are complaints with the committee about students not being given adequate time to amend their application form mistakes. The Committee plans to look into other complaints, on September 20. Complaining students and college representatives are supposed to be present for this Tuesday meeting.

Those complaining of bribes being asked for, by managements, have been asked to produce evidence regarding the same. The committee will initiate steps against P K Das, DM Wayanad, Travancore, SUT, Sree Gokulam and Mount Zion Medical Colleges for having failed to publish complete details of applicants, on their websites.
