1. A 15 year old boy has had progressive breathlessness on exertion. He was noted to have pallor. Peripheral smear revealed microcytic hypochromic RBCs. Stool examination suggested hookworm infestation. What is the pathogenesis of this form of anemia?
2. A 30 year old lady has had breathlessness for two months. Now she has noted bleeding while brushing the teeth for one week duration. Clinically she has pallor, there is no splenomegaly or lymphadenopathy. Peripheral smear shows pancytopenia with reduced reticulocyte count. What is the pathogenesis of this form of anemia?
3. A 20 year old girl has had breathlessness for three weeks duration. Clinically pallor, mild jaundice and splenomegaly (4 cm below left costal margin) are noted. Hemogram reveals only anemia (Hb 4.0 gm/di). Biochemically serum bilirubin, LDH and AST are elevated. What is the pathogenesis of this form of anemia?
