Clash over Shifting of colleges: PG Ayurveda allegedly assaulted during protest; Cop suspended
HYDERABAD: The standoff over the issue on shifting of the Dr BRKR Government Ayurvedic College to the premises of the Nizamia (Unani) Tibbi College has taken an ugly turn wherein during the counter-protests by the students of both the colleges, a female student was manhandled by a police constable.

The accused constable associated with Charminar Police Station has reportedly been suspended. This came after the state police verified the video wherein the constable was recorded in a mufti pinching the medical student under her arm while she yelled in pain.

According to recent media accounts, this all started after the Telangana Government made a proposal to shift it from the premises of the Government Unani Hospital at Charminar to the Ayurvedic Hospital at Erragadda in order to carry out renovation works.

Afterwards, more than 200 PG Unani students of Government Nizamia General Hospital barged into the Government Ayurvedic Hospital and allegedly forced the doctors and patients to vacate the premises. Vandalizing the in-patient ward of the hospital the PG Unani students had verbally assaulted the staffs and Duty Medical Officer (DMO).

The college was already accommodating over 100 students of Al ARif college. According to a recent media report by The New Indian Express, in order to accommodate PG Unani students of Government Nizamia General Hospital, the Government Ayurveda Hospital was directed to vacate the premises by July 25 and shift to Erragadda for an interim period while the renovation work was carried out.

However, they allegedly denied to do so and stayed in the building.

Frustrated over the same, the PG Unani students of Nizamia College decided to vacate the premises by themselves.

The PG Unani students allegedly mentioned that they have an order from the Vice-Principal for vacating the premises. However, this was denied by the superintendent, Dr S Rajamouli, who stated that the Director of the Department of Ayush had not issued any such directive.

A complaint was later lodged in the Moghalpura police station by the Superintendent of the Hospital against the PG Unani students involved in the act.

Frustrated, the Ayurveda students also launched a protest. They raised slogans against the Incharge Director AYUSH and tried to push her and pulled her saree. She got a minor injury on her forearm, however, police personnel rescued her and shifted her safely, reports Deccan Chronicle.
