GMCH sec-32 keeps batches apart to avert the ragging menace

Chandigarh: The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32’s 2016 and 2017 batches will not come face to face for the first 10 days, in order to avoid juniors being ragged by their senior counterparts. An order to this effect has already been passed by the college authorities, in view of ragging.

The order states that the two batches are not to attend college and hostel together, for the Ist 10 days till August 10.

The order instructs the two batches to alternatively excuse themselves from both hostel and class and proceed on vacation to avert incidents of ragging, for the initial 10 days, after reopening of college.

The senior batch constituting of nearly a 100 students of the year 2016 are feeling confused and are expressing concern over missing of class in the initial 10 days of college.

According to sources, Chief Warden and security personnel who visited the hostel, asked the 2016 batch to vacate the premises . The batch complied by vacating the hostel by the evening.

When asked about this decision, the authorities said that they were merely following a court recommendation.

The Tribune which had the order of the copy quoted it saying,“The new session of the MBBS batch 2017 admission is going to start from August 1 and the previous session is already going on. Now, in the view of the court recommendations, these two batches should not attend college and stay in hostel together at least for 10 initial days of the new session. Therefore, it has been decided that the MBBS batch of 2016 has to be sent on vacation from August 1 to 7 and the MBBS batch of 2017 would go on a vacation from August 8 to 10.

The Chief Warden, GMCH Complex,Hostels, , will make necessary arrangements accordingly, reads the order. The order copy has been forwarded to all HoDs of the GMCH, Professor In- Charge (academics), Chief Warden and Chairman,Anti-Ragging Committee, GMCH, reports Tribune .
