Chandigarh: GMCH 32 may have to wait 6 months for its new Principal Director
Chandigarh: Director, GMCH sec 32, Dr Atul Sachdev's tenure ends on April 23, 2013. The medical college authorities have yet to select a new director in place of the outgoing one. Decision regarding an extension being granted to the present Director or an officiating one being appointed has also not been decided upon. Interestingly , recruitment rules of the institute are also in for a change with the retirement age having increased from 58 to 62.
Unfortunately, the introduction of a new set of rules will also not come easy. A Committee which has been formed to frame new rules for the post, has put the rules on its website, inviting suggestions and objections from the public."After the rules would be formed, it has to be approved by UPSC which may take up to six month," said an health official.
The appointment of a new Principal-Director at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32 , may take six months, as the UT administration would have to seek approval in the change in recruitment rules from the UPSC, health officials said Tuesday.
On the question of extension being granted to Dr. Sachdev, UT's Health Secretary, Anurag Aggarwal told the iecities, "Whether he(Dr Sachdev) will get an extension, or somebody will be appointed as officiating director, the decision is yet to be taken. We are hopeful to take a decision soon."
This decision on this matter lies with the Punjab Governor and UT administrator V P Singh Badnore.
Dr Atul Sachdev who has been the Director, GMCH since April 2013, was given a one year extension when his tenure as Director ended last year.
