Meerut: An altercation turned into violence at Meerut Medical College earlier this week, after four persons, including one third-year MBBS student from the institute, assaulted a fourth-year medico and absconded from the campus after allegedly gun firing in the air.
The senior MBBS student faced serious injurious to his head. According to the local dailies, on the basis of the complaint registered at Medical Thana (Police Station), a case has been filed against the four accused and the third-year MBBS student was arrested.
Following the incident, the victim MBBS student along with other medicos staged a protest at the medical college campus and shut OPD services down. The protestors were calmed down after the medical college authorities assured of action on the matter.
The police officials confirmed that the violent incident took place on Monday, 7th January. According to Inext report, the third year MBBS student, along with his three companions (who don’t study at the medical college), came to the hostel and tried to drag the senior MBBS student and put him in the car. When two of his friends who were present at the moment with him protested, the accused students allegedly beat them with sticks. All three were injured and the victim MBBS medico faced major injuries to his head.
It has been alleged that the accused students absconded from the campus firing in the air.
The victim MBBS student was rushed to the emergency ward at the medical college. After getting stable, he moved the medical police station and registered a complaint against the miscreants. Subsequently, police arrested the third year MBBS student. Other accused are currently on the run.
In response to this violent attack on him, the fourth year MBBS medico protested along with other medicos, outside the office of the Principal Dr RC Gupta, who further assured action on the issue and calmed the protestors down.
Speaking to Amar Ujala about the incident, Dr Gupta informed that the matter is being investigated. “The family members of the accused student also met him, who claimed that their son was not there (during the incident). He has been framed.” On this, he said that it would be clear only after the police investigation.
The daily adds that the Principal has suspended the accused student. Besides, a committee has been formed to investigate the matter.
Certain sources told Inextlive.Jagran that the victim MBBS student had asked the junior students to not hang out around the girls’ hostel, which led to a dispute between the parties.
However, according to Amar Ujala, the students had an altercation earlier during the medical college cultural fest on the issue of domination at the campus.
