Bootlegger Medico arrested for illegally supplying liquor
Gujarat: A Gujarat based MBBS student along with three accomplices has been arrested recently by the police for allegedly running a bootlegging stint. The accused was found to be running the illegal trading in Bhim Nagar locality of Rajkot.
TOI reports, the prime accused in the case is identified to be 26-year-old final year MBBS student, a native of Godhra, was illegally selling the alcohol with the help of three other individuals. After arresting the accused, police started the interrogation in this regard.
While interrogating, the police found out that one was the supplier of liquor and the MBBS student had employed the other two as the delivery boys to deliver the alcohol to the customer.
Police officials have also recovered 12 cans of beer worth Rs 1,200 and a two-wheeler from the accused.

The MBBS student reportedly started this business after his parents stopped supporting him financially. "During interrogation, the MBBS student confessed of turning to bootleg for the past three months to finance himself after his parents stopped sending him money for having failed to clear his exams four times," J V Bhola, an inspector with Rajkot taluka police station informed TOI.
Bootlegging is the illegal business of transporting (smuggling) alcoholic beverages where such transportation is forbidden by law. Smuggling usually takes place to circumvent taxation or prohibition laws within a particular jurisdiction. The bootlegging is applied to smuggling over land. Alcohol prohibition in India is in force in the states of Bihar, Gujarat, Mizoram and Nagaland as well as in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
The Bombay Prohibition (Gujarat Amendment) Act, 2009 is an Act of Gujarat Legislative Assembly which prohibits the manufacture, selling, buying or distributing of spurious liquor. The vehicles seized in which the liquor is transported are auctioned and the proceeds deposited in the state government treasury.
