Bihar: 53 year old gets an MBBS after 21 years at Darbhanga Medical College

Bihar: A long-wait of 21 years for a 53 year old man ended when an MBBS degree was awarded to him. This news makes Dr Kapidldeo Chaudhary, a student, of the Darbhanga Medical College (DMC) the oldest medical student at the said medical college. He had been admitted to the course in 1995.

“Yes, Dr Chaudhary has been awarded the degree after he cleared the paper concerned in supplementary examination this year and finished his MBBS course,” DMC principal Dr R.K. Sinha told the journalists.

There has been high voltage drama scenes before the degree was awarded to Dr Chaudhary. There were frequent suicide threats by him, expressing his frustration of continuous failure to clear the final year.

He made a breaking news headline in February. He reportedly sent many messages to the mobile of the HOD of medicine, Dr B.K. Singh.

“Sir, now I am 52. Please pass me. I want to become a doctor. I wanted to become a doctor and serve the nation. Therefore, I should be awarded pass marks in the paper. Otherwise, I will commit suicide”, he wrote in one of his messages.

His second message too served the suicide threats: “Good morning Sir … I have seen you for 21 years. No meeting now. Now you will see my dead body.” The messages were sent between January 31 and February 15 this year.

The authorities were quick to take a serious note of the matter. It registered a complaint against Dr Chaudhary, after they sensed trouble. Only after the matter was reported to the police, did Dr Chaudhary signed an undertaking to give assurance to the authorities that he will not take any such extreme step.

Dr Chaudhary has cited poor health due to his age as a reason for not able to concentrate on studies and complete his course any time sooner.
