BHU medical superintendent targeted, a petrol bomb hurled on his premises

Varanasi:Dr OP Upadhayaya, the Medical Superintendent of SSL Hospital of the Banaras Hindu University lived a nightmare of sorts on Wednesday night when a petrol bomb hurled at his house burst a few centimetres away from the rear wheels of his car parked on campus. However, the car did not catch flames as the proctorial board personnel, whom the superintendent informed on hearing the explosion, were quick to reach the spot and extinguish the fire that had come up after the explosion. No damage was reported to the property either.

The Lanka police have registered an FIR and are investigating the matter.

Chief Proctor, Royana Singh who was informed of the incident, immediately, by Dr. Upadhaya revealed that a complaint had been launched directly by the MS with the Lanka police.

According to SO Lanka, Sanjiv Mishra an FIR has been lodged under sections 436, 511 and 507 of IPC against unidentified miscreants after a complaint was forwarded by Dr Upadhyaya, and investigations in the matter were on.

In an earlier incident, the SO informed the TOI that, Dr Upadhyaya and a student, Prince Kumar Singh, had submitted complaints against each other to the Lanka police alleging threats. However, no FIR had been lodged then, he further added.

A group of students is believed to have demonstrated in front of Dr. Upadhyaya's office and burnt his effigy, on Thursday, as well.
