Atal Bihari Medical University: UP Cabinet gives approval to umbrella university for medical colleges
Atal Bihari Vajpayee state medical university; is planned to grant affiliation to 13 state medical colleges, 22 private universities, two autonomous institutions, two non-autonomous institutes and 17 private dental colleges
Lucknow: To regulate all the medical and dental institutions in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced the setting up of an umbrella medical university, which will be named after former honourable Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The move aims at enhancing the quality of medical education in the state. The path to set up this ambitious medical university has also been cleared.
During a recent meeting of a state cabinet the Uttar Pradesh State Medical University ordinance 2018 was approved by the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who presided over the meeting.

The Uttar Pradesh State Medical University Bill 2018 was drafted to set up an umbrella medical university, Atal Bihari Vajpayee state medical university; is planned to grant affiliation to 13 state medical colleges, 22 private universities, two autonomous institutions, two non-autonomous institutes and 17 private dental colleges, reports HT.
State spokespersons and Health Minister Sidharth Nath Singh and Power Minister Srikant Sharma, informed the news agency, UNI that the new Atal Bihari Vajpayee state medical university would regulate all the medical and dental colleges in the state. "A Bill would be brought in the winter session of the state legislature for setting up the new state medical university, probably in Lucknow," they added to their statement.
This medical university would be brought to execution, similar to the lines of APJ Abdul Kalam University, an umbrella university for engineering courses. A senior officer in the medical education department confirmed to The Times Of India, "The university would be based on the lines of APJ Abdul Kalam University, which is an umbrella institution for engineering colleges affiliated to it."

The state cabinet approved a proposal to set up a satellite campus of the King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, in Balrampur. Singh said the satellite campus will make top class medical facilities available to the people of Balrampur and the adjoining districts, adds HT.
