Andhra Pradesh: Seven MBBS students arrested for Ragging Juniors

Nellore: Seven Second year MBBS students of AC Subba Reddy Government Medical College, Dargamitta have been arrested for allegedly ragging their juniors. These students have been identified as Sai Kishore, Sai Teja, Uday Bhaskar, Yapiyya and two others of AC Subba Reddy

As per the victims, the said students were misbehaving with junior students for quite some time. They often attacked the boys studying in first year and even verbally abused the girls who were junior to them, some of the aggrieved students said.

Reportedly, a first year student was also beaten up by his seniors while he was on his way to the mess in the hostel. He told his parents about the constant harassment by these students and also complained to the principal.

The college authorities had filed an FIR against all seven of them on the basis of their misbehavior at the college premises. However, college principal N Prabhakara Rao reportedly asked the police not to arrest any of the accused.

Speaking with the TOI, police said that the college principal N Prabhakar Rao requested them to not register a case against the seven students. The Prinicpal expressed concerns that their future would be spoiled if charges of ragging are filed and reportedly assured to take administrative action.

Expressing their anger , all first year students staged a protest in front of the principal's chamber on Monday and raised slogans against the management for 'supporting' the accused.

The anti-ragging committee is expected to submit a detailed report to the college authorities in seven days.

The college authorities have called the parents of all seven second year students to discuss the said issue.

"The principal says that the second year students will be suspended for two months and they would also be counselled in the presence of their parents," sub inspector Suresh Babu told.
