Kolkata : Employed with a government Hospital in Kalyani for the past two years, a doctor who has been cheating people of lacs of rupees with the lure of getting their wards medical admissions in colleges in Bungaluru was finally arrested. The accused Dr. Santanu Tathagata Pal has nine cases pending against him. He was first booked two years ago, however the administration had no indication about it. Investigations revealed that he had submitted fake documentation to get his present job.

Bidhannagar, North police sources revealed that the accused was first arrested in Tripura on charges of cheating two residents of the state by promising their wards admissions into Bengaluru medical colleges in exchange for money.

The radiologist and the other doctor, Baichitra Sarkar, a physiotherapist, working in a private hospital in Kolkata, duped Dilip Bhaumik, a gynaecologist and proprietor of a nursing home in Agartala of Rs. 40 lac and another Sadhan Chandra Dhar a business man of Rs. 30 lac,on the promise of getting their wards medical admissions in Benguluru based medical colleges in 2013.

When Bhaumik and Dhar took their wards to Benguluru for admissions, the colleges refused to comply. On their return the two parents took up the issue with Pal and Sarkar, however, they did not get their money back.

The police is considering questioning owners of a few private medical colleges in Benguluru, as the same set of colleges have been targets of another gang busted in Salt Lake in 2014. The operations gathered refinement with every passing year, say police.

"On each occasion, they managed to get bail within two months. Now we are trying to slap stringent sections to keep him in jail," said Police officer, Bidhannagar and as reported to the TOI .

Kolkata Police and CID may now lodge separate FIRs since many more victims have approached them with complaints of similar nature, after learning about the arrest.
