Vivekanandam appointed Acting Director of JIPMER

PUDUCHERRY, Senior professor and former head of the Department of Radiotherapy and Professor (Examination), has been appointed acting director of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer).


Dr. Vivekanandam graduated from Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, and did his post-graduation in Radiotherapy from Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.


He has been in the field of hospital management, medical education, and medical research for more than three decades and is regarded a pioneer in radiotherapy with over 70 scientific papers published in various national and international journals, a Jipmer press note said.


Dr. Vivekanandam had undergone World Health Organisation training in Brachytherapy in Memorial Sloan Kettering Institute of Oncology, New York, U.S., and the Arthur G. James Cancer Institute at Ohio, U.S.


During his tenure as Head of the Department of Radiotherapy, he modernized the Regional Cancer Centre with all the latest equipment and facilities in radiotherapy and started the state of the art unit in brachytherapy. Dr. Vivekanandam has been the Professor of Examinations since Jipmer became autonomous in 2008.
