Uttarakhand: Staff Crunch cripples Doon Medical College

Dehradun: Government Doon Medical College begun on September 16, after receiving the Medical Council of India’s approval, is witnessing a major staff crisis. 10 resident doctors have been found absent from work, for the past whole month. Several professors on the other hand have put in their papers.


The three professors, who have called it a day, at the college include Dr Nidhi Uniyal, Assistant Professor, Medicine and Head of Department;citing personal reasons, as the cause for her resignation, the professor resigned on Friday. Prior to her leaving, Associate Professor Vikram Singh, Medicine declined to continue with the job; he was followed by Dr. Sanjay Kumar Varun of the same department.


A professor wanting to stay anonymous told TOI, "Consistent delays in salaries and undue political pressure irked the newly-appointed doctors and could be possible reasons for the resignations."
