Uttarakhand: Medical admissions initiated;students face website difficulties on 1st day

Dehradun: The state of Uttarakhand initiated its counselling process for admissions to the MBBS and BDS courses in all the medical and dental colleges of the state, on Sunday afternoon


These admissions would cater to the merit list of National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination (NEET) - 2017. Candidates are now immersed in the task of online registration and the choice filling on the official website of the university. The first day proved to be troublesome, as they faced problems with the website, which was slow to open to their commands.


The Director, Medical Education, Dr Ashutosh Sayana revealed that the All India on line counselling for Under Graduate (UG) course of MBBS and BDS began on July 16.


The last date for candidates to do on line registration and choice filling of indicative seat is July 21, he informed.


He said the Centralized Counselling Board would allot seats of the first phase on July 24. Dr Sayana clarified that July 31 would be the last day for students allotted seats in first phase of counselling, to take admission.


Dr Sayana told The Pioneer that the candidates can log on to the official website of HNB Medical Education University, www.hnbmu.ac.in for registration and other related information.


The second counselling session will start on August 8. The university has provided a helpline number for students seeking technical and other help too. They can call on the numbers 0135-273321 and 8194093305 from 10 am to 5 pm for the same.


The three Government Medical Colleges of Uttarakhand in the admission fray are as follows:




  • Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), Dehradun,

  • Government Medical College, Haldwani

  • Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Government Medical College, Srinagar.


The GDMC, Dehradun has 150 MBSS seats while the Srinagar and Haldwani colleges have a 100 seats each.


The private medical institutions in the state include:




  • Sri Guru Ram Rai (SGRR) Medical College, Dehradun

  • Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust (HIHT)


15 percent seats in these colleges are reserved for the All India quota and are to be filled through All India counselling.


85 percent seats in the medical colleges of the state are reserved for state quota; these seats will be filled by the domiciled candidates of the state.


While one seat each in the three government medical colleges is reserved for Kashmiri migrant.
