Uttar Pradesh: MCI made a surprise visit for inspection to Motilal Nehru Medical College recently. The three-member team also visited the premise of Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital.

The purpose of the inspection was to inspect the fact that the colleges are adhering to the rules and regulations.

The inspection team visited the premise to verify documents, records, and made class rooms visits. In addition, various departments and different sections of both college/hospital were under inspection by the team.

A detailed report for making further recommendations to the college authorities will be made by MCI. These recommendations will be made for starting a new course or lecturer’s appointment. On the other hand- a negative feedback by MCI can result in course disqualification.

The inspection follows a case of alleged ragging at Moti Lal Nehru College, in which the college has come under the strong glare of PMO and MCI. The college administration is surprised by the sudden visit of MCI inspection team.

The PMO has stepped forward in a case of alleged ragging at Motilal Nehru Medical College (MLNMC), by referring the case to MCI for further probe.

Following this, the college (led by MLNMC principal Dr S P Singh) has constituted a high powered committee to internally probe the alleged incident. A MBBS student had alleged ragging by seniors in December. Further action is reported to be taken on the matter very soon.

"The team verified the documents and computers set up at units. The student-teachers' ratio in each class was taken into account and infrastructure of both the college and hospital was inspected," said Dr RB Kamal of MLNMC told TOI: .

"The visit is made to ensure standards in the practice of medicine is maintained at college and hospital," added Dr Kamal.
