Uttar Pradesh: LLRM Medical College to have a Super specialty block by Dec 2017

Meerut: The foundation stone for a super specialty block at Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial (LLRM) Medical College was laid in unison by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, J P Nadda and Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Anupriya Patel recently.


"It is our target to complete this super specialty block by December 2017 so that tertiary healthcare services can be provided at the hospital under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY)."


The aim of the is to correct the imbalances of access to affordable and reliable tertiary healthcare services and to augment facilities for quality medical education in the country. The other two aims of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana are-setting up of AIIMS like institutions and up-gradation of government medical colleges and institutions.


Shahid Manzoor, UP Cabinet Minister, said that if provisions of providing equipment to the facility was also undertaken by the PMSSY, it would be appreciated by the citizens of the city. Manzoor and Meerut M.P. Rajendra Agarwal demanded that an AIIMS be constructed in the city too.


"Of the total Rs 150 crore sanctioned for the project, Rs 65 crore will be spent to procure state-of-the-art equipment for the super specialty block," said Nadda, while replying to Manzoor.


Rs.120 crore of the total Rs. 150 crore is being given by the central government and the remaining Rs20 crore by the state government. Once ready, the facility will provide cheap and quality service to 10 districts of the region.


Anupriya Patel said, "There will be super specialty departments of neurology, cardiology, nephrology, neurosurgery, burn and plastic surgery, CTVS, paediatric surgery and radiotherapy at the facility. There will be 160 beds, 40 ICU beds, seven operation theatres, one cath laboratory and 18 additional PG seats."
