Bengaluru: Cautioning the state about the progressively declining standards of medical education , K.S. Ravindranath, Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) heeded that the growing number of colleges and the numbers entering them needed to be kept in check, in order to, stop medical institutions from failing in imparting quality medical education .

Pointing at the increasing number of medical colleges and the resultant decrease of patient load on each teaching hospital, Mr. Ravindranath said"As a result, students do not get a chance to see and learn the treatment of various diseases. Even after passing out, a MBBS student would not have seen a hernia." According to the Vice Chancellor the solution to this lay in limiting the number of colleges in the state.

According to The Hindu Mr. H.N Ravindra, MCI Executive Committee member, who was also present on the occasion elaborating on the Vice Chancellor's statement added"This will result in increased intake in the existing colleges and will also benefit the students as they will get adequate exposure,"

Mutually agreeing upon prevalent malpractices in medical colleges the two spoke about teachers and medical equipment being shifted from one college to another during inspections. The MCI is taking serious note of such malpractices," the MCI Executive Member, added
