Lucknow: The UP state government has introduced a new incentive for teachers working in Rural Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Saifai . An allowance of Rs 1 lac will be set for teachers working in the institute and imparting education in specialty courses.

The initiative comes in the light of severe shortfall of medical faculties at the institute. Relevant orders were also passed months ago relating the matter.

Principal secretary medical education, Anup Pandey told TOI, "The allowance was given approval to increase teaching and training standards in the institute. Relevant orders were passed two months ago."

Director general medical education Dr Virendra Tripathy said medical institutions in state face 10 to 30% shortfall in faculty positions. "There have been occasions where we could not get teachers in the normal process of recruitment, hence the incentive.”

"I am always in favour of incentive to teachers who go to rural medical colleges and this is a good way to attract talent there." stated All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi director Dr M.C. Mishra.
