Union Health Ministry nod to start 1st Batch of AIIMS Bhatinda at BFUHS from July 2019
Bhatinda: The Union Health Ministry is reported to have given its nod to start the first batch of MBBS degree course for All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhatinda at Faridkot based Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS).
The Medical Dialogues team earlier reported that Union food processing minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal had requested Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to give the go-ahead to a proposal mooted by her to start classes for the first batch of MBBS students of AIIMS, Bathinda at the Baba Farid University, Faridkot keeping in view that the medical college building will be completed by October 2019.

AIIMS Bhatinda was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25th November 2016. 177 acres of land was allotted for setting up the campus in the outskirts of Bhatinda at the cost of Rs 925 crore. It would be a 750 bedded medical institute which would facilitate 10 specialty and 11 super-specialty departments. It would have 16 ultramodern state-of-the-art operation theatres along with a 100-seat medical college and a 60-seat nursing college. It will also accommodate different wards, including emergency/ trauma, private and ICU, specialty and super specialty.
In a recent press interaction, Harsimrat Kaur Badal informed that the centre gave its nod to start the first batch of the MBBS course from August. The batch will have 50 MBBS students, states a report in Tribune.
She informed that a team from PGI, Chandigarh was sent for the inspection to Bhatinda to finalise the location to start the course. The team gave its approval to BFUHS, Faridkot campus. The team, then, sent its recommendation to the Union ministry and forwarded the same to the Punjab government.
Harsimrat Kaur Badal said, "Today is truly a red letter day for the Malwa region and Punjab. We have achieved a milestone. The ground has been cleared for the start of the first batch of MBBS. Youth from Punjab and all over the country will be benefitted by this move and it gives me great pleasure to spearhead this movement to expand opportunities for youth as well as usher in ultra-modern medical facilities in the Malwa region."
"I moved this proposal to ensure youth aspiring for admission in the institute did not lose one year since the medical college building will be completed by October 2019," she further added, reports TOI.
She further informed the Tribune, "The OPD and diagnostic centre facilities, which were slated to start in February 2019, have been delayed for want of mandatory clearances on part of the state government. The project will now get a boost with the start of MBBS classes and will be completed within the next one and a half years," .
