Agartala Government Medical College is facing the recruitment axe from Tripura High Court regarding the appointment of 24 assistant professors at the college. It has been alleged that there are notable irregularities in the recruitment process.

As reported by TOI, in his judgement, justice S C Das maintained that the recruitment process did not follow the subject-wise reservation norms and rules were violated in recruiting people to fill the posts.

Moni Ranjan Debbarma, who wanted to teach surgery, and Dr Ashis Debbarma, who wanted to be in the biochemistry department, had filed a writ petition in 2012, soon after the filling up of the posts of 34 assistant professors. Their candidatures were denied.

The additional details of the case imply that the allegation on the college for not following rules, reservation policies and provisions has been set by the two applicants now. They have also alleged that the merits of the aspirants have not been considered in the due process.

The AGMC authorities on the other hand have denied the allegations and implied that this court judgment will only complicate the situation as they have the MCI team visiting the premise next week. The college has been under the MCI lens for lack of infrastructure and shortage of faculty. The court has granted three months time to the college for fresh recruitment.
