Agartala: Tripura Health Minister Badal Chowdhury last night alleged that BJP state observer Sunil Deodhar has desperately been trying to derecognise the state's two Medical Colleges.

Addressing a gathering of celebration of Doctors' Day, Chowdhury alleged that Deodhar had written a letter to Union Health Minister J P Nadda urging him to derecognise Agartala Government Medical College and Tripura Medical College stating that they are running on fraudulent manner.

It is an irony those who are trying hard to bring about a change in Tripura, are making efforts to dismantle the medical education in the state, he said adding that BJP was using MCI to bring trouble for two medical colleges.

"They want to hand over medical colleges to corporate house staking the interest of the people. But the state government will continue to stick for welfare of the people though there is shortage of doctors in the state as a sizable number of pass-out students go to the outside state", Chowdhury stated.

Chowdhury also took a dig at the doctors over private practice. He said there no bar of government doctors visiting private clinic or chamber but it should not be at the cost of duty hour. "Doctors must perform their duty properly during hospital hours and seniors must show the way. The government has given enough relaxation to the doctors keeping in mind of the ground reality", he pointed out.

In a reaction, Sunil Deodhar stated there had been large scale irregularities in society run Tripura Medical College (TMC) and the state government is utterly failed to ensure basic minimum treatment facilities to Agartala Govt Medical College and situation of other hospitals are even worst.

"Yes, I have written a letter to Union Health Minister about the irregularities in TMC and there must be an inquiry into these irregularities by the Medical Council of India (MCI),' he said and added that it did not mean BJP was against the Medical Colleges.

"The state government is leaving no scope to criticize the Central government on various issues. Now, I want the Centre to undertake inquiry into the irregularities in TMC to put the things in right way", Deodhar alleged.
