Trichy: In a recent visit of one man team at KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College (KAPVGMC), the Medical Council of India (MCI) has granted the permission to KAPVGMC to have one MD (psychiatry) seat from the next academic year. The inspection was carried out for the renewal of MD (General medicine) course.

The college had started its MD (general medicine) course in year 2007 with four seats.

The selection of an MBBS student for the said course will be through either the All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination (AIPGMEE) or state level entrance exam.

Speaking with TOI, a senior official reported, "Our college had applied for permission from MCI to start MD in psychiatry course. We have got the permission from the council which allowed us to start the course with one seat from the next academic year,".

Showing confidence for the renewal of the MD general medicine course the college administration said “We have the manpower and facilities for the post-graduate courses. So, there will be no problem in holding back the recognition”

The College is now looking forward for two more approvals of MS (general surgery) and MD (bio chemistry) courses from MCI. These two inspections will held on Thursday and Friday respectively.
