Telangana: Sanathnagar ESIC Medical College gets MCI approval to offer 100 medical seats

Telangana: Medical aspirants in the state can rejoice over the increased offering of 100 additional medical seats from Sanathnagar ESIC Medical College. MCI has recently given an approval, after its inspection in April 2016, to the state medical college to start offering seats from the 2016-17 academic year. The medical college hospital has a capacity of 500 beds, 100 faculty members and 21 departments.


The dean of the ESIC medical college, Dr. M. Srinivas, implied that required faculty has been and necessary equipment has been procured for beginning this year’s academic session.


“This is a historic development. I am very happy to say that this is a gift from the Centre to the Telangana State. I wish to thank Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, and department officials for making it happen. It will also give a chance for workers children to get admitted into medicine,” he said at a press conference here on Thursday.


The news has been confirmed by the Union Labour and Employment Minister Bandaru Dattatreya. He also extended his gratitude to the Union Health Minister for approval of the medical college. The minister in his statement implied that out of the 100 medical seats on offer, 35 per cent reservation has been done for children of workers, who have insurance with ESIC. They are termed as insured persons (IPs) in ESIC. Sanathnagar ESIC has an affiliation with Dr NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada.


In addition the minister implied that a modern Employment Exchange will be started here in the second quarter of July. Job seekers and employers, given registration on the National Career Service portal of the Labour ministry, will be present on one platform on the occasion. The NCS portal will also be invited to join the Telangana Public Service Commission (TSPSC), and be a part of the system for providing employment to many job seekers.


Mr. Dattatrya said to the Hindu the college will have state of art facilities and in a couple of years will grow into a premier healthcare research centre offering post graduate studies too. Continuing medical education programmes have already commenced in the college.
