Telangana Private Medical Colleges write to Govt demanding MBBS fee HIKE for Management Quota

If the government gives its nod to five per cent on the existing fees, the MBBS and BDS aspirants this year would have to pay an additional increase of Rs 57,000 on B category (management quota) and Rs 1.15 lakh on the NRI or C category.

Hyderabad: The fee structure for MBBS and BDS courses at self financing medical and dental institutes in Telangana is likely to shoot up this academic year since the institutes’ joint association has written a letter to the state government to give nod to implement the 5 per cent hike in tuition fees for management quota (B and C categories) seats.


According to recent media accounts, the Telangana Private Medical and Dental Colleges Association has submitted a representation to the Telangana Health Minister Eatela Rajendar seeking a fee hike as the last fee revision was made in the year 2016.


The existing fee structure in private medical colleges (non-minority) is Rs 11.55 lakh tuition fee per year for B category seats (management quota) and Rs 23.1 lakh for C category (or NRI quota seats). If the government gives its nod to five per cent on the existing fees, the MBBS and BDS aspirants this year would have to pay an additional increase of Rs 57,000 on B category and Rs 1.15 lakh on the NRI or C category.

With the counselling for Management quota seats already been started, it is being anticipated that the fee structure may not change for this year.


The private institutes informed that the government had, two years ago, assured the fee structure for MBBS and BDS course will be increased every year. However, the government failed to do so.


“This year, we want the government to enhance the fee structure by a minimum five per cent keeping in view rising inflation and salary structure of teachers,” Dr Rao, member of Telangana Private Medical and Dental College Managements Association told TOI


The Association president C Lakshmi Narasimha Rao stated to Hans India that they have written to government well in advance on this issue, but he rued no decision was taken so far.


Meanwhile, after the second day of Round 1 counselling conducted by Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), 646 for B category seats and 464 seats for NRI category were vacant at 21 self-financing medical colleges.


Whereas for 11 private dental colleges, 376 for B category seats and 150 seats for NRI category.
