Telangana: 6 ESIC Medical Colleges granted MCI approval for 2nd batch of students

Hyderabad: Six Medical colleges & two dental institutions being run by the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), have been given the apex education regulator's(MCI), approval. The approval has been given for the 2nd batch of admissions for the coming academic year.


The above announcement was made by the Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Bandaru Dattatreya at a press conference on Saturday. The Minister said that the ESIC Medical College at Sanathnagar will start admissions into its second batch of medical students.


"We have already sanctioned funds worth Rs 450 crore for upgrading the existing 350 bedded hospital to a 500 bed hospital," he told Telangana Today.


Further, up gradation of six dispensaries in Hyderabad and another 23 dispensaries in the rest of Telangana State have been decided upon by the ESIC Board.


"The dispensaries will be developed into six-bedded hospitals and we have already sought necessary land from the Telangana " he added.


The hospitals to be constructed by the ESI include a 300 bed hospital at Amravati, , a 100-bed hospital in Guntur, a 100-bed hospital in Penugonda, a 450-bed hospital in Visakhapatnam, and another 100-bed hospital in Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh reports Hindu.


Work on these hospitals according to the Minister would begin as soon as the AP government allots land for them, apart from the required permissions.The ESI hospital at Tirupati is to be renovated at the cost of Rs 117 crores.
