Tamil Nadu: MCI grants Pudukottai Government Medical College an LOP

The new Pudukottai Government Medical College for 2017-18, with a student strength of 150 has received the Medical Council of India’s(MCI), Letter of Permission to run the academic session.The Council authorities seem more than pleased with the infrastructural and faculty arrangements made by the college, for the batch of 150 students.


The apex education regulator team which visited the college recently seemed to be more than happy with the arrangements made for in-patients, out-patients, doctors, para-medical staff members ,class rooms, lecture halls, laboratories, and residential and residence quarters. The college is also prepared to run a 700 bedded hospital.


Jayalalithaa, Former Chief Minister, lay the foundation stone for the college through a video conferencing sessionon March 1, 2016. The college building’s has been constructed for approximately Rs.229 crore, on a sprawling 127 acre plot of land at Mullur village.


Of this Rs 229 crore, Rs 108 crore was used on construction of the hospital buildings ,a sum of Rs. 59.16 crore was spent for administrative buildings, & Rs. 61.31 crore for residents and residential quarters.


With a a built-up area of 41,309 square meters. the residential quarters have a cover 20,463 square meters. The total built-up area of the college is 84,069 square meters, reports Hindu.
