Tamil Nadu: MCI approves 17 more PG seats for KAP Viswanatham GMC

Tiruchi: KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College has been given the Medical Council of India’s(MCI), approval for offering 17 more post graduate seats for the year 2017-18. This is the first time since its inception, that the college has been given the permission to raise its PG seats in a double digit figure. The approval comes based on the proposal sent by the college, last month, to the education regulator. The college in its submission had listed out the available infrastructure for offering the courses.


Dean, KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College, Mary Lilly revealed that the number of seats in Master of Surgery would go up to 16 from 4. The college has also been granted permission to offer 5 more seats in Doctor of Medicine in Paediatrics (MD Paediatrics). It had so far been offering 4 seats in MD Paediatrics.


22 Post graduate seats were offered by the college for the academic year 2016-17. These included 4 seats each in Doctor of Science, Doctor of Medicine- Paediatrics, Doctor of Medicine- Anaesthesia. With the new increase in PG seats, the total number will now go up to 39


Speaking about the development, C. Vijaya Baskar, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, told Hindu that sincere attempts on the part of the State government had enabled the college to increase its PG seats. This augurs well for PG aspirants, he added. The government had planned to increase PG seats further, he revealed.
