Tamil Nadu: Ayush research to be carried out at Medical University

Chennai: An Agreement has been signed for research and clinical trial in Siddha between Dr MGR University, Tamil Nadu and the Central Council for Research.


Under the agreement, the University would allow postgraduates and doctoral research candidates to use the medical university’s laboratories for research in Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Homoeopathy and Yoga.


A week long orientation and training program on Siddha was launched by the university for doctors from outside Ayush. The university will allow the use of its library and clinical facility for drug development by PGs and doctoral research scholars.


Officials of the university informed that the educational body had recently signed an agreement with the National Institute of Siddha, to promote collaborative and clinical research, among doctors and non medical fraternity.


The university has planned to construct an integrated Ayush hospital at a cost of Rs.1.69 crore within the University premises, to promote Siddha OPD, said Vice-Chancellor S. Geethalakshmi reports Hindu.


The university also has a Siddha outpatient department with a footfall of a hundred patients daily. Patients visiting it are treated for non communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension.
