Steel Ministry grants 25 acres of land for setting up Bokaro medical college, 100 MBBS seats to be added
Bokaro: The way to open another medical college in the state is clear. Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has recently granted 25 acres of land to the state government for opening medical colleges in Bokaro. With the establishment of this medical college, the state will witness an addition of 100 MBBS seats.
Confirming the information, BSL PR officials informed, "Ministry of Steel granted 25 acres of land near BIADA Colony at Sector 12 in Bokaro Steel City for establishing a medical college."
The district administration has identified this land for establishing a Medical College on the directive issued by the state government.
The medical college will be fully constructed from the state budget and it will become a combined medical institute while being tagged with 910 bedded Bokaro General Hospital. According to a statement made Principal Secretary earlier in August, this medical college will get 100 MBBS seats.
Two years ago, in November 2016, the Bokaro DC Rai Mahimapat Ray had written a letter to Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) management regarding the land allotment and had asked for earliest transfer formalities for the aforesaid land.
PK Singh CEO BSL informed the Pioneer, "The land has been approved by the ministry for establishing a medical college while the proposal for land for the engineering college and a stadium is under process."
The medical college in Bokaro will be opened at an estimated investment of Rs 600 crore by the State government under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. "This would be a 100 seats medical college; proposed to be opened under PPP mode with Manipal Group of Medical College, aiming to cater the intrinsic healthcare needs of the entire region including parts of its neighbouring states," he said.
Foundation stone of the medical college would be laid by the end of the December this year, an official informed.
The Bokaro Steel Plant, which runs a 910-bed Bokaro General Hospital, was keen on opening a medical college since 2004-05; got MCI nod in the year 2012 for establishing and upgrading BGH as a medical college after the needful verification, adds the daily.
