UP Medical College Professor booked for allegedly sexually harassing student

Kanpur: A professor of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial (GSVM) medical college has recently been booked after a first-year female student of the institute accused him of sexual harassment.
In her complaint, the student alleged that the professor was torturing her from past 8 months. He used to call her out alone and tried to sexually harass her several times. When she complained about this to the principal, the accused threatened her of the acid attack and to kill her, as per Dainik Jagran
According to the recent media reports, the student pursuing Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology at the medical college registered a written complaint with the institute management and the Swaroop Nagar police station on 15 January 2020.

"We have received a complaint a GSVM professor on Wednesday and have launched an investigation in the case. GSVM authorities have also launched a probe under the Vishakha Guidelines - a set of procedural guidelines for sexual harassment cases. We visited GSVM medical college on Wednesday evening and asked the senior authorities to submit a report in this regard soon," Ashwini Pandey, inspector, Swaroop Nagar police station informed TOI.
College authorities also formed a committee to inquire about this case. "Matter had come to our notice and a committee has been formed to probe the allegations under the Vishakha Guidelines," Dr Aarti Lal Chandani, principal, GSVM informed TOI.
Meanwhile, the accused professor is calling this whole thing a conspiracy against him.
"They are making me a victim of the internal politics of the college. The student has been provoked by a female professor for her personal intentions. A few days ago I complained about the student with her parents for not attending the class and this whole thing is just an act of revenge," accused professor stated to Dainik Jagran.
The professor also demanded a narco test to prove his innocence.
