Sri Chaitanya suspends dean arrested in medical paper leak case
Hyderabad: Sri Chaitanya Group of Institutions on Friday suspended the dean V Vasu Babu, who was arrested by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) along with a middleman on Thursday in connection with the TS EAMCET-II - 2016 medical question paper leak case.
n a release, the Institutions State Coordinator V Narendra Babu said Sri Chaitanya Group has always been an institute of repute and never abetted anyone to join hands in any kind of malpractice or corruption again to gain institutional mileage.
However, the CID got a fresh breakthrough in the high-profile case which was capitalised by many MBBS aspirants to secure high ranks, with the arrest of Sri Chaitanya Junior College Dean Vasu Babu,who is in-charge of six campuses and K Venkata Sivanarayana Rao, an agent for admissions in private colleges at their respective residences, CID said in a release on Thursday night.
In the case, Vasu Babu was named accused number 89 , while Rao was accused number 90.
The call data of the two arrested persons Vasu Babu, resident of Kothapet in the city and Sivanaryana Rao, native of Guntur revealed that they were in touch with suspects Dhananjay, Tauqeer and Sandeep Kumar, who conducted preparation camps using the leaked question paper at Bhubaneshwar.
The two accused were were in touch with other suspects too, who conducted similar camps with leaked EAMCET question papers at Bhubaneswar, said the release.
The duo met several times between February and July 2016, and discussed the leakage of paper and gathering of students.
They arranged six students for the camp, along with other students, at Bhubaneswar and prepared them for the exam using the leaked question papers, the release said.
All the six students attempted the entrance exam on July 9, 2016 and of them, three secured good ranks as the entrance paper tallied with the leaked paper, the police said. The CID officials clarified that till now they found no involvement of any other member of Sri Chaitanya Junior college and he (Vasu Babu) did the fraud in his personal capacity.
The suspects collected Rs 35 lakh from each student. The suspects were in touch with the students' parents and brokers too. They did this to make money and bring fame to institutions, the police said.
On July 25, 2016 the CID registered a case under relevant Sections of the IPC and other provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Public Examinations (Prevention of Malpractices and Unfair Means) Act-1997 and since then arrested around 60 persons (brokers and sub-brokers) including the prime accused Kalamesh.
Most of the key brokers, who were instrum, ental in the EAMCET question paper leak, hails from Bihar. It also seized Rs 2.87 crore related to the scam .
